This program showcases the performance work of the group Blacklips – a highly regarded dance-theatre collective that was
wildly popular on the downtown New York performance scene
in the 1990s. Featured in this program are excerps from 2 works –
“The Ascension of Marsha P. Johnson” & “The Birth of Anne
Frank” – 2 stunningly visual and tender music-theater works
which are high camp, transvestite spectacles. Both were directed by
and feature Antony. who has become a pop music star
with his group Antony & The Johnons. . Recorded in 1995 at
Performance Space 122 in New York City. Also featured ar excerpts
from a revealing interview with Antony. Length: 29 minutes.
